Zoe Saldana is the mysterious Aisha in “The Losers” 0

Posted on April 12, 2010 by kankan
Red-hot actress Zoe Saldana, coming off back-to-back blockbusters “Avatar” and “Star Trek,” now stars as the alluring but deadly Aisha, in Warner Bros.’ new action-thriller “The Losers.”
From the recent graphic novel based upon the comic books written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Jock, “The Losers” follows a ragtag but highly skilled team of U. S. Special Forces operatives who get double-crossed and left for dead in the jungles of Bolivia .
Despite their individual and combined skills, The Losers need help to sneak back into the U.S. undetected.  That’s where Aisha comes in. Saldana plays the woman who proves to be either a formidable ally or a dangerous enemy…or both.  It’s hard to know whose side she’s really on—other than her own—but Losers leader Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is about to learn she usually comes out on top.
“Aisha appears to them out of nowhere just when the guys think there is no hope for them to get back home,” says Saldana.  “She makes them an offer that sounds too good to be true, but it’s also an offer they can’t refuse: she’ll get them back into the country, but then they have to deliver their nemesis Max (Jason Patric).  They decide to take her up on it, but there is mistrust from the beginning because they don’t know what this woman is hiding up her sleeve,” the actress smiles.
Director Sylvain White recalls, “When we started discussing the role of Aisha, I instantly thought of Zoë.  She has remarkable acting chops, but she also has the physicality the role demanded.  Aisha is not the lady in distress; quite the contrary, she’s the badass who actually rescues the men.  She’s very capable, very strong and very determined, and Zoë brought her own genuine strength to her performance.  She also happens to look very much like the character in the comic book, so we were thrilled when she said yes.”
Producer Joel Silver adds, “Zoë is beautiful and sexy and exciting—all the things Aisha needed to be.  We wanted Aisha to be a match for the guys and then some.  She’s tough, smart, opinionated and able to mix it up, and everything we expected of the character, Zoë delivered to the role.”
Bound to be the most talked-about scenes in “The Losers” is the motel room all-out brawl between Clay and Aisha, who, surprisingly, is more than a match for her larger opponent.  “When Clay and Aisha meet, you think they’re about to hook up for a steamy scene and they end up kicking the crap out of each other,” explains Saldana.  “There’s something sexy about a woman who can hold her own against a man, especially when they find each other irresistible.”
“It was pretty hot,” Morgan agrees, though not necessarily referring to the attraction between the characters.  “The flames in that room were real, so filming that scene really stood out for me.”
Opening across the Philippines on Friday, April 23, “The Losers” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Chris Evans as tech whiz Jensen in “The Losers” 0

Posted on April 07, 2010 by kankan
Playing the Human Torch in the “Fantastic Four” films catapulted him to stardom.  Now Chris Evans stars in another motion picture based on a graphic novel as he portrays the gadget and computer expert Jensen in Warner Bros.’ action-adventure “The Losers.”
An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, “The Losers” centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission.  But the team soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.  Now presumed dead, the group makes plans to avenge themselves and clear their names.
Evans says his attraction to the project transcends its comic book roots.  “The attraction to this film was precisely working with producers like Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman, and with a director like Sylvain White, who is so supportive,” says the actor.  “This is his first action film, which is tricky and has a lot of pieces to the puzzle, but he knows how to manage that full plate he has on the table very well.”
He adds, “This film is more in the vein of the `Lethal Weapon’ and `Die Hard’ films that Joel Silver produced and that, in my opinion, still hold up to this day because they were infused with comedic chemistry.”
Evans describes Jensen as “a hacker and a computer nerd, but also the kind of guy who loves life.  In the family dynamic of the group, Jensen is kind of the kid of the family.  He’s a little juvenile and immature, gets into mischief and cracks jokes at inappropriate times.  I hope he comes off as likeable.”
“The Losers” also stars Jeffery Dean Morgan (“Watchmen”) as Clay; Zoe Saldana (“Avatar,” “Star Trek”) as Aisha; Idris Elba (“Obsessed”) as Roque; Columbus Short (“Quarantine”) as Pooch; Oscar Jaeneda (“Che: Part Two”) as Cougar; and Jason Patric (“My Sister’s Keeper”) as Max.
Chris Evans began his acting career in typical fashion, but it was his rapid rise to stardom which was unusual. Bitten by the acting bug in the first grade, Evans started out appearing in school plays and theater camp; from there it was a quick jump to local community theater, and later, an internship for a casting office. Once Evans made friends with a few agents on the job, it was a straight shot to television and blockbuster features.
One of the more talented of the fair-haired, pretty-boy actors to emerge in the early years of the new millennium, Evans scored with roles in a succession of high-profile releases. His most famous part, however, came in 2005 when he was tapped to play the role of the Human Torch in director Tim Story’s adaptation of the Marvel Comics classic “The Fantastic Four” and its subsequent sequel, “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” (2007).
Opening soon across the Philippines , “The Losers” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, from “Watchmen” to “The Losers” 0

Posted on March 29, 2010 by kankan
He previously starred as the Comedian in the blockbuster film “Watchmen.”  Now, Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Franklin Clay, the ad-hoc leader of a renegade group of operatives in Warner Bros.’ new action-adventure “The Losers.”
Morgan leads a diverse ensemble cast that includes Chris Evans as Jensen, the gadget and computer expert; Idris Elba as Roque, Clay’s trusted right-hand man; Columbus Short as expert driver and vehicle specialist Pooch; and Zoe Saldana as Aisha, a lethal operative who comes to the Losers’ aid.  Each member of the team contributes with a unique set of skills to form a lethal, if underestimated, fighting machine.
Clay, says Morgan, is as tough as they come but not without his flaws.  “Clay is pretty straightforward and his men trust him, but he does make some mistakes during the course of the story,” Morgan explains. “They have been together for a while and he has pulled them through time and time again, so they are willing to stay by his side even though things get a little rough here. There are cool relationships that develop over the course of this film between the different characters.”
Making the film has been a joy for the actor, who calls it “a kind of throw-back action movie,” he says.  “It’s what I grew up watching—a movie with a ton of action and a sense of humor about it as well.  The theme of the story is kind of hell-bent revenge.  I just feel really incredibly lucky to be a part of it.”
Having a graphic novel as the source material provided both cast and crew with a reference to find additional dimensions to the film, a phenomenon Morgan likewise experienced on “Watchmen.”  “There are a lot of things that Clay does in the comics that I try to remain true to,” he says.  “These things range from the way he points his gun to his whole posture.  To be able to build from that is something that I find invaluable. I have to admit that `Watchmen’ was the first graphic novel I had read in 20 years and it threw me into the world of comic books, which is a great place to be as some of the most original and best stuff that I am drawn to is all from that world. And they also have the best stories and characters. I am really happy to be in that universe, and if it makes me geeky I don’t care.”
With director Sylvain White’s encouragement, and the screenplay as well as the graphic novel to inform the characters, the cast led by Morgan, immersed themselves in the characters of “The Losers.” “They became the characters,” says producer Joel Silver.  “They did a tremendous job finding the chemistry and camaraderie and really brought these people to life.  They brought excitement to it.  They are all fun, great people, and that comes through onscreen.  You really feel the fun of their experience.”
It’s immediately apparent on-set that an extraordinary chemistry exists amongst the group of actors that have been working together for the past several months, playing the Losers—a title that Morgan’s character gives to the group at some point in the film.  Working with these actors, White engendered an atmosphere where improvisation was always welcome.  “When you have a lot of scenes that depend on the chemistry of the group, it’s normal for them to improvise,” explains the director. “I’m always open to trying new things. The script is the guideline, but if you can get more truth from improv or ad-libs that work, why not welcome it?”
Opening soon across the Philippines , “The Losers” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
