Independent Films Successfully Projected in HD at Gateway Cineplex 10 0

The two independent short films “Pera-perahang Lata” (30 mins., Philippines) and “Technophilia” (7 mins., Korea-Philippines-Iraq) was successfully projected in high definition (HD) during the film premiere at the Cinema 5 (Dolby Super Digital Cinema) of Gateway Cineplex 10 last June 3, 2009. These films by director Rianne Hill Soriano are the first ever successfully projected independent films in the country in HD format – with privilege of using one of the country’s top digital cinemas (following the feat of the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival animated film entry “Dayo”).

Regional Highlights in Filipino Filmfest 0

With feature films representing the different regions of the Philippines, the upcoming IndioBravo Filipino Film Festival might as well be called “Around the Philippines in 15 Movies”. The festival, which opens on June 11 at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art and runs until June 14 at the Visual Arts Theater, showcases award-winning new films produced not only in Metro Manila but in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao, including Cebu City, Davao City and Bacolod – and in the local dialect at that (with English subtitles).

Gateway Digital Cinema Supports the Premiere of 2 Independent Short Films 0

It is an acknowledged fact that the lack of financial resources and government support tend to put the development of Philippine cinema some step backwards. But this should not stop filmmakers, producers, and film industry institutions, companies, and entertainment-related businesses from helping one another for the improvement of our film industry.

Gateway Cineplex 10, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Colorwheel Media Studios present “Indie HD: Premiere of the Filipino and Korean Independent Short Films ‘Pera-perahang Lata’ and ‘Technophilia’ in HD Format and a Discussion On Digital Technology in Indie Films Today.” Directed by Rianne Hill Soriano, the two films will be projected in HD format at the Cinema 1 of Gateway Cineplex 10 (Dolby Super Digital Cinema) on June 3, 2009, 6:30 p. m.

“Pera-perahang Lata” Premieres at Gateway Digital Cinema This June 0

The Filipino independent film “Pera-perahang Lata” and the Korean independent film “Technophilia” premieres at the Gateway Dolby Super Digital Cinema (Cinema 1) on June 3, 2009, 6:30 p. m. Through the help of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Colorwheel Media Studios, Araneta Group, Innovasia, Optima Digital, and Marikina Cultural Office, a full program entitled “Indie HD” shall also provide a one-hour discussion on digital technology in independent films today.

Funded by the NCCA and shot in HD format, the 30-minute independent film “Pera-perahang Lata” (Penny from the Tin Can) explores the many facets of a struggling life in a world that is full of unpredictable moments – where things are beyond one’s control. Set during the Filipino Christmas season – amidst the exciting tradition of gift-giving, caroling, and the “Simbang Gabi” – this film exposes both the rich culture and the struggle of Filipinos in the Manila commune.
