Winner of the Best Director award in this year’s Cannes Film Festival, FilmDistrict’s critically acclaimed thriller “Drive” starring Ryan Gosling will be shown soon exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas (Glorietta 4 & Greenbelt 3). The film is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and adapted from James Sallis’s 2005 novel of the same name.
On this week’s TALK ASIA CNN’s Anna Coren speaks with the 2009 Best Director at Cannes, Brillante Mendoza. Filmed in his Manila studio and on set, he talks about receiving the prestigious Cannes award and how his winning film “Kinatay” has struggled with censorship issues in his home country the Philippines. He also explains why he feels bringing up his adopted daughter Angelica is a greater achievement than winning at Cannes.

Cannes Palme d’Or Best Director Brillante Mendoza heads the Main Competition Jury of this year’s Cinemanila International Film Festival.
The association between the festival and the world-renowned filmmaker goes way back, as Cinemanila was one of the very first to give Mendoza recognition. Back in 2006, Cinemanila awarded Mendoza the coveted Lino Brocka Award for his film, Manoro. Mendoza was also the Director in Focus during the festival’s momentous 10th edition last year.
