Who can resist a funny man? They lighten the mood, brighten up any situation and are the only ones who can put a smile back on your face after a tough day. This September join 2nd Avenue as they celebrate four of Hollywood’s top Funny men every Saturday night at 9PM on Third Row.

Kicking off the laugh fest on September 4 is Man of the Year starring Robin Williams as Tom Dobbs, a comedic host of a news satire show. As a joke Dobbs decides to run for the presidency of the United States. But much to his and many others surprise he wins the election and is named the new president. But what Dobbs doesn’t know is that he won due to a computerized voting machine malfunction. When an employee from the voting machine company, Eleanor Green (Laura Linney) discovers the anomaly, it’s up to her to decide if she will reveal the truth.

On September 11 get ready for the most stylishly hilarious road trip ever filmed when drag queens, Noxeema (Wesley Snipes) and Vida (Patrick Swayze), and newbie drag queen Chi-Chi (John Leguizamo) travel across America to make it to the Drag Queen finals in Hollywood in To Wong Foo. Riding a cheap and beat-up Cadillac it’s not long before the queens are stranded in the middle of nowhere and they have to use their wits and endless supply of dazzling costumes to get by.

Putting behind them their differences, the members of the Hoover family come together for youngest member Olive, who wants to join the finals of a beauty pageant. Traveling across the country in their mini van, will they make it to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant or will their differences get the better of them? Stars Abigail BreslinGreg KinnearToni Collette and Steve Carell.

Round off the month on September 20 with the side-splitting English comedy The Full Monty. With steel not in demand, the city of Sheffield has fallen into ruin with steel factories closing and thousands loosing their jobs. Six unemployed steel workers, depressed, bored and looking for money decide to come up with a “get rich quick scheme.” Inspired by the Chippendale’s dancers, the men form a striptease act that not only lifts their spirits but the towns too. Stars Robert Carlyle and Tom Wilkinson.

Medical Dramas Back to Back on 2nd Avenue every Tuesday 0

Posted on June 07, 2010 by kankan
Make an appointment every Tuesday night on 2nd Avenue with two doctors who know how to cure the entertainment blues. Migraine? Fever? Chills? Not a problem for two of TV’s smartest and most unconventional medical practitioners who will have you feeling better in no time. Starting at 9PM, check in with Royal Pains and House every Tuesday night on 2nd Avenue.
Royal Pains at 9PM is like no other medical drama on TV as it takes place anywhere but the operating room. Hot in-demand doctor Hank Lawson(Mark Feuerstein) is the Hampton’s newest accessory—a concierge doctor who must employ some filthy means to cure the filthy rich.
Having stalled his perfect career as a surgeon after an important patient dies in the operating room of a swanky New York Hospital, Hank’s life falls to shambles. After months of self-pity his younger brother Evan (Paulo Costanzo) asks Hank to join him on a last-minute trip to the Hamptons. While there the brothers crash a party at a mega-mansion on the beach, when one of the billionaire’s guests fall ill Hank saves the day and impresses the crowd in the process. Soon word spreads about a new doctor in town who is willing to do house calls.
Royal Pains also stars Reshma Shetty as Divya Katdare, Hank’s medical assistant and Jill Flint as Jill Casey, the beautiful local hospital administrator who Hank can’t keep his eyes off.
Then at 10PM get a dose of Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild winner Hugh Laurie as the narcissistic, yet brilliant diagnostician Gregory House in House Season 5. Four months have passed since the bus crash that injured House and killed Amber, Wilson’s girlfriend. Unable to cope with the memories the hospital holds and constantly seeing House, Wilson (James Evan) resigns from Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Coming to the conclusion that his friendship with House only serves to facilitate House’s dysfunctions he starts to question their bond.
While at the hospital, House continues to work with his new team: plastic surgeon Chris Taub (Peter Jacobson), secretive Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley (Olivia Wilde) and enthusiastic Dr. Lawrence Kutner (Kal Penn). Rejoining the team is Dr. Eric Foreman (Omar Epps) who was asked to return by Dean of Medicine Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) to act as her spy on House and his erratic antics.
The Doctors are in! Royal Pains at 9PM and House at 10PM every Tuesday night on 2nd Avenue.

These nurses show no mercy on 2nd Avenue 0

Behind every good doctor is a great nurse. This rings true with 2nd Avenue’s newest medical drama Mercy. Making its Philippine premiere on March 8, Monday as part of the channels all-new Ladies’ Night Block at 9PM. This medical drama will leave you with a new found appreciation for nurses because as the doctor takes care of the disease, they’ll take care of the patient.
The show looks at the on-goings inside Mercy Hospital through the eyes of the nurses working there. Focusing less on the patients’ diagnosis, Mercy concentrates on the characters and their emotional involvement with each other, with patients and with their families and loved ones.
Nurse Veronica Callahan as played by Taylor Schilling is a tough nurse who has just returned to Mercy after a military tour of duty in Iraq. After what she has seen out in the field of war, Veronica has the strength of a soldier within and isn’t about to back down to anyone, even a doctor. Going beyond the call of duty with her patients Veronica finds just as much conflict in the ward as she does at home. Since her return from duty she has found herself living with her family while trying to sort out her “in-limbo” marriage to Mike Callahan (Diego Klattenhoff) her estranged husband. However just when Veronica thought she could mend this partnership, Dr. Chris Sands (James Tupper) a doctor she had an affair with in Iraq arrives at Mercy to complicate Veronica’s life, especially when the two still feel the attraction.
Her colleagues at Mercy include Nurse Sonia Jimenez (Jaime Lee Kirchner) who is attractive yet sassy and who knows what it takes to be a good nurse. As well as Chloe Payne (Michelle Trachtenberg of Gossip Girl) a fresh nursing graduate who still sees the medical world as text books and classrooms. Leave it up to Veronica to give Chloe a lesson in real world experience. Rounding up the cast is Guillermo Diaz as Nurse Angel Lopez and James Le Gros as Dr. Harris.
Mercy premieres on March 8, Monday at 9PM as part of Ladies’ Night Block on 2nd Avenue.
Ladies’ Night Block consists of Mercy, New Adventures of Old Christine Season 4 and Weeds Season 3 every Monday night at 9-11PM.
2nd Avenue is seen on UHF RJTV Channel 29, SkyCable Ch. 19, Global Destiny Ch. 29 and Cable Link Ch. 46.
