Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Rise of the Bounty Hunters–bigger, bolder and more intense than ever before 0

George Lucas and Dave Filoni share the latest updates into the new season of the Star Wars saga
Fierce battles, expanded storylines, and ground-breaking animation raise the stakes higher than ever before in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Rise of the Bounty Hunterspremiering on Cartoon Network in May. With new episodes every Friday at 7:30 PM, the series features the continuing adventures of the Jedi as their lives grow more complex and secretive. Forbidden relationships are revealed and a new breed of villain enters to take advantage of the wartime turmoil.  Season two introduces these lawless rogues into the fray along with a host of new characters, locations and creatures. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Star Wars universe, The Clone Wars – Rise of the Bounty Hunters is bigger, bolder and more intense than ever before!
George Lucas, creator and executive producer of Star Wars the Clone Wars and Dave Filoni, the show’s supervising director share exciting highlights on the all-new season:
What do you see as the biggest differences between this season and the first season?
GEORGE LUCAS: The series is progressing a lot like the live-action movies. In the first season, we were able to keep things light; it was a conflict between good and evil, with clear-cut good guys and bad guys, much like the first movie. We were able to explore the world and introduce our characters, setting the tone. The second season furthers the story like The Empire Strikes Back did for the original trilogy. It’s more complicated, and we’re seeing that an ongoing war isn’t as simple as we’d been led to believe. The only difference is that the original movies led to the victory over the Empire, while our series will finish off at the beginning of Episode III, which is a low point for the Republic.
DAVE FILONI: Yeah, but that’s not to say that the galaxy is going to be cloaked in darkness by the end. Because we have the luxury of telling so many different stories, we are really able to expand on things and explore all kinds of different aspects of the Star Wars universe. To a degree, things will have to become more difficult for the heroes, but we are still able to look at many different aspects of the Clone Wars. There will be triumphs, and plenty of humor and heroism, too. After all, this is Star Wars.
GL: We’ve also come a long way with our production. To look at the first season versus the episodes that are airing now, the difference is clear.
DF: Absolutely. This was an ambitious project from the beginning; George doesn’t let us compromise, and his vision is basically to produce a 22-minute movie each week. As a new studio, meeting those expectations was tremendously difficult. I am so proud of what we accomplished in the first season, but we have learned so much since then – and it shows. As we produce more and more episodes, we continue to build our asset library and our expertise. And as the fundamentals become second-nature, we can focus on developing new tricks. It’s so exciting to see how that translates to the screen, and I think we’re creating something pretty unique for TV.
What are some of the stories and surprises we can expect to see in the second season?
DF: Well, I can’t give away any surprises, but I can say that you’ll see some appearances by some familiar faces from the live-action films. For example, we’re bringing back Aurra Sing. She didn’t get to do much in Episode I, and we saw her briefly at the end of our first season, but fans are finally going to see her in action. That’s pretty exciting, and it’s fun to have the chance to deliver on these long-standing fan expectations. Plus, she’s a bounty hunter, which means she doesn’t play fair, and that’s always a lot of fun.
GL: We’re also bringing back Bossk, one of the bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back. He’ll have a little more to do than just wiggle his toes this time around.
DF: We’ve got some fun new characters, too. We’re finally going to see the Mandalorians, whose famous armor was popularized by Jango and Boba Fett in the live-action films. And we’ve got some really cool new creatures and monsters, too. I think fans are really going to like the Zillo Beast, but I’m not going to say any more right now!
Will we see any more of the Anakin/Padme romance?
DF: We catch glimpses here and there, but we’re not focusing on it. The war effort keeps Anakin out on the front lines, while Padme is caught in the political web on Coruscant. Still, she’s definitely a driving force for Anakin, and an ongoing reminder of his tendency toward personal attachments – something that will get him into trouble down the line.
GL: Anakin’s not the only Jedi with romantic tendencies. We’re going to see that even the most serious Jedi Masters have pasts, and that those pasts can sometimes return unexpectedly.
DF: Yeah, in addition to providing an emotional backbone, there is definitely humor to be found in these situations, as well. And that’s something we are very clear about when producing the series; even though we are in the middle of a very tumultuous time for the galaxy, we always try to maintain a sense of humor, and to include some comic relief. The battle droids have really evolved into that role, for example. Beyond that, it’s definitely one of the classic qualities of the Star Wars movies for the heroes to find themselves in over their heads.
What about Ahsoka? She is becoming more like Anakin, even to the point of paralleling his personal attachments. Is this a foreshadow of her eventual fate?

DF: We have ideas about what will happen with Ahsoka, but her destiny changes as her character grows.

Jackie Chan mentors Jaden Smith in “The Karate Kid”  0

Posted on May 31, 2010 by kankan
Asian superstar and global legend Jackie Chan stars as Mr. Han, a Beijing maintenance man who is secretly a master of kung fu, in Columbia Pictures’ new action adventure “The Karate Kid.”  As Han teaches transplanted American kid Dre (Jaden Smith) that kung fu is not about punches and parries — but maturity and calm — Dre learns that facing down the bullies in his school will be the fight of his life.
Perhaps the film’s biggest challenge was casting the role of the kung fun mentor.  The filmmakers would need an icon—and they found one, in Jackie Chan.  “Really, who else could do it?” says producer Ken Stovitz.  “Jackie is the only man who fits the bill.  When I would say to myself, ‘We’re making `Karate Kid’ with Jackie Chan in the Mr. Miyagi role,’ well, frankly, that was a movie I wanted to see.”
Chan felt a particular affinity for the story, as he admits he can actually relate to the young American character.  “I understand the fish out of water story,” he says.  “About 30 years ago, I went to America for the first time by myself.  When you’re in a completely different culture, it’s very frightening.”
The story tells the tale not only of a master and student but of the bond that’s formed between a lonely, childless man and a fatherless boy.  Says Chan:  “At first Mr. Han thinks he is only helping this bullied boy, but in the end, his life is also transformed.”
“Dre is like boys everywhere – they want to kick something, a way to get revenge,” says Chan.  “But kung fu is not about hurting people. It’s about helping people.”
Chan observes of his young co-star:  “I’ve never seen a child that’s as clever as Jaden is.  He learns whatever I teach him.  I mean, I’d show him something and, boom, he got it right away.  He’s amazing!”
Director Harald Zwart recalls one poignant moment from the shoot:  “I saw Jackie and Jaden relaxing between set-ups sitting on a little beach, you know, skipping stones in the water, and I was thinking if I was 11 years old and just hanging out with Jackie Chan, that would be a dream come true.”
Of course, in addition to the invaluable training he already got, Smith had another way of learning kung fu.  “I watched a lot of Jackie’s movies and even copied some of his moves,” laughs Smith.  In fact, an entire sequence – in which Mr. Han and Dre train and spar with sticks – is a reference of sorts to one of Chan’s earliest and most famous fights.
Smith’s relationship with Chan really did mirror their characters’ in the film.  “He is amazing.  He was always teaching me things,” says Smith.  “How to stretch correctly, how to be in a scene, how to focus.  He was right there with me the whole time.”
For Chan, “The Karate Kid” was both a homecoming and a dream-come-true.  “I am so thankful to the production company for filming in China .  We may have a five thousand year old history but our government is only sixty years young, a new government.  This movie will give audiences a chance to learn about Chinese culture as well as Chinese martial arts. Such a wonderful promotion,” he exclaims.
Opening across the Philippines on Friday, June 11, “The Karate Kid” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.  Visit www.sonypictures.com.ph to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

The dashing men of “Sex and the City 2″ 0

Posted on May 28, 2010 by kankan
Accompanying Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda on many of their journeys are the various men who’ve come in and out of their lives—after all, what is “Sex and the City” without, well, sex.  In New Line Cinema’s eagerly awaited sequel “Sex and the City 2,” these gentlemen also make their grand return, led by Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Steve (David Eigenberg), Harry (Evan Handler), Smith (Jason Lewis) and Aidan (John Corbett).
Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) writing has depended equally upon the women and men in her life to keep it both racy and relevant. However, no man has had a bigger impact on Carrie than her on-again, off-again boyfriend, friend, lover and, at long last, husband…Mr. Big.  Or, as we now know him, John James Preston.  When we last saw him, Big was finally able to say “I do,” proving to Carrie that to him she was, indeed, the one.
Now, approaching their second anniversary, the couple is still trying to agree on their own unique definition of marriage.  “This movie’s a wonderful example of where it’s possible to go, because a relationship doesn’t end with the wedding, or the party and laughs afterward,” Chris Noth comments.  “There is the next day, the next series of moments between people, the next series of challenges.  You have a life together and all the ups and downs of that, and that’s what we deal with in this film.  Once you get what you think you’ve wanted for so long, what happens then?  There’s a whole new set of questions.  It’s always a work in progress.”
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve’s marriage, having come through the turmoil of his one-time infidelity, couldn’t be on firmer ground.  “Miranda and Steve are very real, very honest with each other,” David Eigenberg says.  “They’re down to brass tacks; they understand that you have to finesse the relationship a little and they are supportive of one another, but they don’t manipulate each other.  They just say what they need and they’ve learned how to compromise.  It’s a very real relationship.”
While Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Harry also have a very solid marriage, for the first time, Charlotte begins to have doubts about her loyal husband.  Evan Handler explains, “Charlotte has hired a wonderful young Irish woman to help take care of their children.  This woman also happens to be extremely gorgeous and to have never worn a bra in her life.  This causes Samantha to question why Charlotte would bring such temptation into their home, leading to suspicions that had never occurred to Charlotte before.  The movie poses the question of whether Harry has become untrustworthy, or whether Charlotte has grown paranoid.”
One character who has vowed never to be tied down again is Samantha (Kim Cattrall)…though she’s not opposed to possibly being tied up by former boyfriend Smith Jerrod.  In New York for the premiere of his newest film, Smith invites his former flame and her friends to the big event.
Meanwhile, halfway around the world, Carrie runs into her past.  Like a true desert mirage, in the middle of the Abu Dhabi marketplace and in the midst of confused feelings about her marriage, Carrie sees…Aidan.
“When he sees her, his first thought is, ‘Wow, how beautiful is she?’ and how happy he is to see her,” John Corbett says.  “When you’re out of town, in a city where you don’t know other people, he thinks, ‘What’s the harm in two old friends having dinner?’  There is so much history and unresolved feelings between them that he just can’t resist.”
“These women would be spinning in a false reality if there weren’t worthwhile men they were trying to build their lives around,” director Michael Patrick King grins.  “So the guys are really important.  It’s always been about the four friends, the girls, but their lives wouldn’t have evolved if the audience wasn’t somehow believing in and relating to the men that they chose.  John as Aidan Shaw, Chris as Mr. Big…it’s been part of my great joy over the years to write the parts of these somewhat silent heroes.”
Opening across the Philippines on June 2, “Sex and the City 2” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in association with New Line Cinema.

“Toy Story 3″ blends comedy, action and heartfelt emotion 0

Posted on May 27, 2010 by kankan
The creators of the beloved “Toy Story” films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of our favorite gang of toy characters in Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3.” In the film, as Andy prepares to depart for college, Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Buzz (voiced by Tim Allen) and the rest of his loyal toys find themselves in… daycare!  These untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the Great Escape get underway.
As with all the great Pixar films, “Toy Story 3” blends comedy, action and heartfelt emotion to give moviegoers a uniquely moving experience that touches the heart and tickles the funny bone.  The filmmakers drew on their own life experiences and families to make the story even more meaningful and believable.  For one of the film’s key story points, director Lee Unkrich tapped into the time he accidentally threw out a bag of his wife’s childhood stuffed animals (placed in an unmarked plastic bag) during the process of moving apartments.
“Lee’s leadership and vision on this film has been a tour de force,” says producer Darla K. Anderson.  “He really steered the storytelling and the filmmaking.  He’s been like a maestro directing a symphony in a way that’s just astounding.  He knows when it needs to be a little bit quiet, and when to give the story a little more time to unfold.  The film has a lot of serious themes, so we wanted to make sure we balanced it out with a lot of humor.  It can be as deep as you want it to be.  The story reflects how we all move on.  It’s all about the human experience.”
“‘Toy Story’ has always been about us,” says John Lasseter (who directed the first two “Toy Story” films and serves as executive producer on the third).  “So much of me, Andrew, Pete Docter, Joe Ranft, and Lee has seeped into these stories about Buzz and Woody, and I think ‘Toy Story 3’ continues that.  For me personally, I was able to tap into the real emotion of taking my son to college.  It was an immensely powerful emotion.  You’re with someone since birth, and then all of a sudden they’re going away.  The timing between ‘Toy Story 2’ and ‘Toy Story 3’ was perfect for letting Andy—and our own life situations—grow up.”
The original “Toy Story” made motion-picture history in 1995 when it became the first full-length animated feature to be created entirely by artists using CG technology.  It represented a major milestone in animated moviemaking.  All 77 minutes of breathtaking animation, 1,561 shots, and a cast of 76 characters that included humans, toys and a dog were meticulously hand-designed, built and animated in the computer.  It became the highest grossing film of 1995, with a domestic box office of nearly $192 million, and $362 million worldwide.  “Toy Story” was nominated for three Academy Awards®, and John Lasseter received a Special Achievement Oscar® for his “inspired leadership of the Pixar ‘Toy Story’ team, resulting in the first feature-length computer-animated film.”  Additionally, the film was included on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 Greatest American Movies.
In 1999, “Toy Story 2” (Pixar’s third feature), became the first film ever to be entirely created, mastered and exhibited digitally.  The film surpassed the original at the box office becoming the first animated sequel to gross more than its inspiration.  It won praise from critics and moviegoers alike, and was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Original Song and two Golden Globes®, winning the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical.
Opening soon across the Philippines in Digital 3D and regular format, “Toy Story 3” is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.
