Sleep tight. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is here… 0

Posted on March 29, 2010 by kankan
Freddy Krueger returns in New Line Cinema’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street ,” a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic.
In the film, a group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams.  As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another…but when they sleep, there is no escape.
Donning Freddy’s trademark fedora, red-and-green striped sweater, and four-bladed gloves is Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children,” “Watchmen”).
The film is directed by award-winning music video and commercial director Samuel Bayer (Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”), marking his feature film debut.
The teens whose dreams are terrorized by Freddy Krueger are played by an ensemble of young actors, including Kyle Gallner (“The Haunting in Connecticut”), Katie Cassidy (“Taken,” TV’s “Supernatural”), Rooney Mara (“Urban Legend: Bloody Mary”), Thomas Dekker (“Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”), and Kellan Lutz (“Twilight”).  The supporting cast also includes veteran character actor Clancy Brown (“Highlander”) and Connie Britton (“Friday Night Lights”).
Samuel Bayer is directing “A Nightmare on Elm Street ” from a screenplay by Wesley Strick (“ Cape Fear ,” “Wolf”) and Eric Heisserer.  The film is produced by Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, whose company has enjoyed success with a number of re-imagined horror franchises, including “Friday the 13th,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and “The Amityville Horror.”  The executive producers are Bob Shaye, Michael Lynne, and Mike Drake (“The Number 23,” “The Whole Nine Yards”).  The co-producer is John Rickard.
Opening soon across the Philippines , “A Nightmare on Elm Street ,” is presented by Warner Bros. Pictures in association with New Line Cinema.

Craig David Signed Sealed Delivered 0

Posted on March 26, 2010 by kankan
R&B star Craig David returns with a new single and album deal with MCA Music (A Universal Music Group company). His first single, is One More Lie (Standing In The Shadows), taken from his fifth studio album Signed Sealed Delivered released later on the March 2010.
The album is a collection of some of the great soul hits including For Once In My Life, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and the title track by Stevie Wonder, reworked in Craig’s own style. The single, his first since 2008, takes a sample from the classic Four Tops hit (first released in 1966) and gives it a modern flavour.
From a UK Garage pioneer to a mainstream multi-million seller, Craig David is so much more than your average artist. The Southampton born singer is a truly exceptional individual who transcends the norm, consistently outdoes expectation and continues to push musical boundaries. Still only 27-years old, it’s incredible to consider what he’s achieved during his ten year career. From Ivor Novello awards to sales of over 13 million, 2 No.1’s, 13 Top 10 hits, huge success in America and sold out shows across the world, Craig is one of the music scene’s most successful male solo performers. As well as awards, acclaim, platinum sales and sold-out tours, the singer/songwriter is one of a handful of artists able to balance incredible commercial success with can’t-pay-for-it credibility.
His brand new album, Signed Sealed Delivered asserts once more why Craig is such a significant artist. Covering a multitude of Motown classics, Craig’s fifth studio offering retains his innovative approach to music-making. Favourites from Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops and The Temptations are all given a 2010 twist; the first single One More Lie (Standing In The Shadows) is an upbeat floor-filler, featuring hardknock drums and a new level of vocal from Craig, as he takes it to the top-end. Indeed, his voice is the centerpiece of the entire album, asserting his presence as a powerful pop vocalist. “I felt like, if I’m going to sing a Stevie song, I have to do it justice, so I approached it differently,” says Craig of recording the record. “Even if my voice broke hitting those notes, even if it was out of my comfort zone, I put my all in. I wanted this record to feel the same as when I made my first album; the songs had to pop out of the speakers. As soon as I started to feel that, I knew I was onto a winner.”
Unaware that Motown meant all songs recorded on the eponymous label, Craig also picked out a Curtis Steigers classic, I Wonder Why.  “My manager had to sit me down and explain Motown’s history,” he laughs. “But I love that track so much, so we decided to keep it regardless.” Featuring eleven Motown songs and one Steigers, Signed Sealed Delivered also covers ForOnce In My Life, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and, of course, the title track by Stevie. Stuffed with soul, synths, powerful melodies and razor-sharp riffs, the album reflects Craig’s young age while tipping more than a large nod to the masters of music.
Signed Sealed Delivered, does exactly what is says on the proverbial tin. He’s already achieved so much more than most, but for Craig David the story continues. “I haven’t lost the excitement or the love; in fact if anything, I’m more inspired than ever.”
Signed Sealed Delivered available March 2010, only from MCA Music.

First-look images: Sparks, Dolly and Mr. P of “Toy Story 3″ 0

Posted on March 25, 2010 by kankan
A robot, a rag doll and a hedgehog join the new cast of “Toy Story 3.” See them for the first time here!
SPARKS will fly – literally — during electrifying playtimes with your new robot friend Sparks! This retro-inspired toy has flashing red LED eyes and a blaster cavity that actually spits out real sparks when he’s rolled along on his sturdy rubber wheels. Sparks also sports telescoping arms with working pincers, and an elevator action that raises his entire body to new heights. Sparking action completely child-safe. Requires two AA batteries (not included).
DOLLY is a soft and sweet dress-up rag doll, and is the perfect gift for any young child! Her floppy body and sunny smile will make her an irresistible new member of your family. Dolly has purple hair, googly eyes and gently blushing cheeks. She comes with a pretty blue dress, but templates are included to create and sew your own outfits! Machine washable on gentle cycle.
Frolic your afternoons away on woodland adventures with MR. PRICKLEPANTS! This charming lederhosen-wearing hedgehog is from the Waldfreunde collection of premium imported plush toys. He may look prickly, but the plump and fuzzy Mr. Pricklepants is made strictly for cuddling! Hand wash and air dry. Restore fluffiness with fingers.
The creators of the beloved “Toy Story” films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of our favorite gang of toy characters in TOY STORY 3. As Andy prepares to depart for college, Buzz, Woody and the rest of his loyal toys are troubled about their uncertain future.
Directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2” and “Finding Nemo”), TOY STORY 3 is a comical new adventure in Disney Digital 3D™ that lands the toys in a room full of untamed tots who can’t wait to get their sticky little fingers on these “new” toys.  It’s pandemonium as they try to stay together, ensuring “no toy gets left behind.”  Meanwhile, Barbie comes face to plastic face with Ken (yes, that Ken).
Pixar veteran Darla K. Anderson (“Cars,” “Monsters, Inc.”) produces, while Michael Arndt, Academy Award®-winning screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine,” brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities.
TOY STORY 3 opens across the Philippines on June 23 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and conventional format.

“Date Night’s” appealing support cast 0

Posted on March 25, 2010 by kankan
Mark Wahlberg goes shirtless in all scenes, gorgeous gal Leighton Meester turns up as babysitter, James Franco is a clumsy drug dealer and Ray Liotta looks like an unlikely crime lord in the upcoming action-comedy “Date Night” starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey.
“Date Night” sets out when Phil (Carell) and Claire (Fey) Foster venture into the heart of Manhattan for a romantic date intending to spice up their relationship. There is nothing exactly wrong with their marriage. They love each other but the passion has faded. They decide to leave the New Jersey suburb where they live with their two children for an evening of fun and splash out on a night  inManhattan. They impulsively take a table belonging to another couple who haven’t turned up for dinner. The Fosters become “The Tripplehorns” played by James Franco and Mila Kunis, which leads to a host of problems  that  rapidly begin to unravel.
Along their night-from-hell journey, Phil and Claire encounter a cavalcade of characters on both sides of the law. And getting high-powered stars to join the DATE NIGHT team wasn’t just a matter of coincidence for director Shawn Levy.  “So many people were so keen to find a way to work with Steve and Tina – they just found a way to make it work,” says Levy.
Mark Wahlberg portrays a former real estate client of Claire’s, the pair turns to in the middle of the night.  “I play a guy named Holbrooke Grant, who is a security expert who Claire and Phil come to for help,” Wahlberg explains.  Wahlberg had the simplest costume in the entire cast.  “There is no wardrobe – just a pair of silk genie pants,” he recalls, noting that he regularly found himself freezing on the air-conditioned set. “Mark was shirtless for three or four days,” Fey says, prompting an increase in women who suddenly had additional tasks to address on set on the days he was on the job.
Ray Liotta plays the formidable boss gangster Joe Miletto, from whom the Tripplehorns have apparently stolen something of importance that he wants back.  The casting of acclaimed actor Ray Liotta as Miletto delighted Carell and Fey.  “We were shooting a scene with Ray one night,” recalls Carell, “and Tina looked over and said, ‘I feel like I am in a 3D version of ‘Goodfellas.  Ray Liotta is actually walking up and talking to me.’  It was like a ride at a theme park.”
Portraying the “real” Tripplehorns – actually a drug dealer named Taste and his wacky stripper girlfriend, Whippit – are James Franco and Mila Kunis. Kunis describes the pair as “very passionate – when they’re angry, they’re very angry, and when they’re happy, they’re madly in love.”  “Gossip Girl’s” Leighton Meester also takes on the key role as the Fosters’ babysitter Katy.
“Date Night” opens April 9 (Friday) from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Destiny has a plan of its own in “The Back-Up Plan” 0

Posted on March 24, 2010 by kankan
In Columbia Pictures’ new romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan,” Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) has a very full and charmed life.  But while staring down her late 30s, she comes to the realization that the one thing that has evaded her, Mr. Right, may never come along.  She decides to fulfill her dream to have a family on her own and makes an appointment with a fertility doctor.  As luck would have it, mere moments after the procedure she meets Mr. Right.
The arrival of Stan (Alex O’Loughlin), aka Mr. Right, in Zoe’s life begins her romantic journey in love, in life, and in labor.  He throws her plan off course in a way that has wildly comedic repercussions both due to circumstance as well as their contrasting personalities.
“Zoe is a planner,” explains Jennifer Lopez.  “She decides it’s time to have a baby and she sets out to make that happen.  Stan, on the other hand, is much more of a free spirit.  He’s not living out his dreams (he owns a cheese stand at a NY farmer’s market) but he’s relaxed into his situation.  He’s not really thinking about the future, and certainly not looking to be tied down.”
Writer Kate Angelo derived the idea for her first feature from witnessing her close friends dealing with thirtysomething female issues. “There is an undeniable biological ticking clock.  And, at some point, if you haven’t met that right guy by a certain age, you have to consider other options in order to have a family.”
“When I read the script, I laughed out loud all the way through which doesn’t happen often,” recalls director Alan Poul.  “And then I cried at the end.  I thought to myself ‘if I can bring even just 75 percent of that experience to the screen, it’s going to be a very satisfying movie.’”
Poul appreciated the script’s reflection that society has turned the traditional ‘courtship, love, marriage, parenthood’ sequence of events on its head in recent years.  He was also thrilled that Lopez was going to play Zoe.
The vision was to create a modern romantic comedy.  To that end, Poul looked for every opportunity to elevate what he refers to as the material’s “cutting edge contemporary comedic voice.”
Poul is quick to mention, however, that Angelo’s script also has a nice balance of classic romantic comedy elements from which he pulled.   Perhaps the most notable is the energy of Zoe and Stan which Poul likens to the famous team of Hepburn and Tracy, whose witty banter and on-camera electricity made the genre iconic.  Says Poul, “From the moment Zoe and Stan’s worlds collide upon hailing the same cab, it’s a classic romantic comedy.”
Though Poul found Zoe and Stan’s relationship to be “hilariously funny and genuinely romantic,” he also looked beyond the two leads for entertainment value.
“He looks for comedy in the background and on the sides, wherever the camera is,” says producer Todd Black.  “He’s always looking beyond the main actors for how he can make people smile watching the whole frame of the movie.”
Lopez prides herself on doing her homework before every shoot day.  She always strives to be aware of each scene’s whole picture, including the beats within the beats, in order to stretch the comedy further.  Poul makes a habit of doing the same.   Together they were able to mine every scene to the maximum extent.  Lopez enjoyed collaborating with the director.  “Alan had ideas for each scene I would not have thought of, and vice versa,” says Lopez.  “Working together allowed us to maximize the value of the material.”
Opening soon across the Philippines , “The Back-Up Plan” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.  Visit www.sonypictures.com.ph to see the latest trailers, get free downloads and play free movie games.

Interview with GERARD BUTLER: Stoick the Vast 0

Posted on March 24, 2010 by kankan
Q: How did you become involved with “How to Train Your Dragon”?  Did they send you a script?
GB: No, you don’t seem to get scripts for these movies.  They came to me with the idea—and showed me art, renderings of my character, the other characters and the Island of Berk.  They showed me the world that we would live in and then told me a rough story—it was much more specifically based on the book.  There’ve been a lot of changes since then.  And, so, I think what happens in animation, anyway, is that you go in and you do a session—and my experience now tells me that the chances for that early session ever making it into the movie are pretty low.  Because, it’s always moving and transforming—the story changes, and the dialogue changes, and the scenes change, which is actually kind of great.  It is definitely an interesting way to go about it, but no, when I went in, there was definitely no script.  I don’t know if there’s a script even now.  [LAUGHS]
Q: I know that directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois were interested in speaking to you about Stoic before your first recording session with them.
GB: Yeah, it was interesting, because my opinion hadn’t really come into play before.  I’d never really been asked for my opinion.  I was given my pages and I turned up.  Not that that was bad, that’s obviously the way it works in animation.  There are too many people working there, doing the writing, editing, animating, for me to be turning up and saying “I think this is how it should be.”  Then, Chris and Dean came on, and I got a call from my manager, saying that they’d love to have a chat with you about your thoughts for the character.  We were in different parts of the country, so it’d be by phone.  There was a part of me that thought, what a lovely thing.  You know, how great, and there was another part of me that thought, I don’t know what to say—I have no idea where they want to go with it, how they want to change it.  Interestingly enough, it turned out to be one of the best phone conversations I ever had, especially opening conversations, with two guys who were so excited, appreciative and smart, and who knew what they wanted.  But they were also open to other ideas.  We ended up creating whole scenes, and a new thing for Stoick—which was often playing against that pure toughness, the brawniness and the way he spoke with everybody, to a more confused kind of vulnerability, trying to be that strong guy, but often just becoming completely befuddled.  And, a lot of great stuff came out of just that one conversation.  It’s true, you know, I see the remnants of a lot of that conversation even in the movie now when I watch it.  But, it made me so much more excited about the movie, because I knew I was working with two incredibly talented and smart, but also considerate and sensitive guys, you know?  I could just tell I was working with two actors’ directors.
Q: Tell me about Chief Stoick.
GB: I play Stoick, the Vast, I think is his name, who is the Chief Viking of this village on the Island of Berk.  He’s very old-school, very traditional.  I mean, their main thing is fighting—preparing for that fight, and preparing themselves to be heroes, to be brave,  brawny and tough.  And, I have this son who is, I guess, the opposite of all of that.  He comes along, and he has his own ideas.  He’s an inventor, he’s creative, he’s witty, he’s just an embarrassment.  It’s a journey for my character to come to appreciate my son’s own beauty and what he has to offer—and that there’s a whole other way to living as Vikings, other than the way that we thought…that there is a way of tolerance, of peace, of understanding.  That’s how you would say it in a very spiritual way.  [LAUGHS]
Q: What has led up to this fever pitch of conflict between Vikings and dragons?  The movie starts with this virtual blitzkrieg attack—what’s figured into this attack?  Did you get on the island two generations ago, and the first person there was attacked?
GB: Oh, no, it’s more than two generations. We’ve been in this village for a long, long time.  I am the product of many generations and many chiefs of the Island of Berk.  I think that in the movie, it feels like this has been a constant thing.  We have been battling these dragons for a long time, which is why I was trained the way I was, and my father was trained the way he was.  It’s our sole occupation—we’re not marauding Vikings, we’re occupying Vikings.  We don’t go off elsewhere, as your traditional Vikings would do.  We’re pretty much on that island, defending ourselves and fighting the dragons.  Maybe we go on missions to try and destroy them.  But, no, it’s pretty much a constant threat that we have.  Yeah, I guess blitzkrieg is a good way to describe it.   And we just try to save our people and our livestock, and destroy as many of them as possible.  And as many as we can capture of them, the better, because we can learn from them, and teach our kids how to fight against them.
Q: Did the character look one way when you first saw it and then did it evolve?  Or, has it pretty much stayed?
GB: Well, the initial rendering I saw was just a 2D still rendering.  So, I don’t think he looks much different.  What was the big challenge for the animators was to then bring that to life—and one of the biggest challenges was the beard, to make it as real and as alive as possible.  And, I remember how excited they’d always get, and they’d say, “We’re almost done with the beard!”  Also, to give him his personality, his ticks.  We had this incredible supervising animator Kristof Serrand, whom everybody just raves about.  He’s done such a brilliant job.  What I love is that when I first went in, they had all these little [lipstick] cameras all over the place, and I couldn’t understand why they had them—I thought, I’m just sitting here, reading—I’m performing, but not really moving, not really doing that much.  Then, they showed me some footage from me performing, compared to the animation of Stoick.  And they had really used a lot of my own movement, which I found very interesting.
Q: As an actor, you use every part of yourself in a performance.  But now, it’s just your voice.  Was your process different at all?  Was it more challenging?
GB: Yeah, it is more challenging.  It is more challenging when, as an actor, you don’t have the physical environment that you would generally have if you were a Viking and you were surrounded by dragons, or speaking to your son in this great hall, or at the head of a Viking ship.  Actually, you’re always standing in the same place surrounded by the same people.  There’s not that many of them, and you’re in a dark room.  You don’t have the other actors.  I did one session with Craig and Jay, but most of them with no actor. Sometimes with the directors reading with me, sometimes with nobody reading with me.  So, you really are creating a lot out of nothing, which is a whole new way of acting, and I embrace that.  It’s not easy, but it was the same when I did “300,” it was a whole new style of acting to me.  Often, I was speaking to people that didn’t exist, looking at things that weren’t there.  So, you learn to modulate—it’s a huge learning curve.  And, I like that…but there are times that you don’t feel the same sense of gratification inside that boils away in your stomach when you finish a scene.  Because, there aren’t the other actors around for you to get your ego boost.  How was that?  Was that good?  But, I have to say that what made up for that was working with Chris and Dean.  They’re two very special human beings, who couldn’t have been more encouraging, more appreciative.  I couldn’t say a bad word about them.  They’re very smart; they got to know me very quickly, and the best way to work with me.  I loved the process.  I really looked forward to coming and hanging out with them.
Q: What do you think it is about the Scots, and the Celts and the Picts before them, that will cling so tenaciously to a piece of uninhabitable land and defend it to the death?  What is it?
GB: Because they’ve got nowhere else to go.  [LAUGHS]  Well, in Scotland, I guess the only way they could go was South, which was to England.  And that wasn’t quite happening, you know, we were too busy defending our own land.  Listen, I think it happens all over the world, when people are in a place, then, they want to defend it.  It’s their home; it’s what they know.  When the Celts or the Picts were living in Scotland, they didn’t know that Africa existed. [LAUGHS]  They didn’t know they could go on holiday to Majorca—this is what they knew.  They were a much rougher breed.  And, it’s the same with the Vikings, as well, but it makes me proud to be Scottish.  It’s what allows me to play roles like this—that history of tenacity, the toughness, the fearlessness and the stubbornness that works for a character like Stoick…that definitely is part of our Scottish personality.

httyd1
