“The Half-Blood Prince” is the full-fledged king of Philippine box-office!  The sixth installment of the “Harry Potter” saga rewrote the record books, posting a royal P104.77-million nationwide four-day opening weekend (July 16-19) in 310 screens.  This was announced today by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. Philippines, the film’s local distributor.

Forty five works have been chosen to be part of the roster of the Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival.

The chosen works speak on a wide range of socio-political themes: poverty and underdevelopment, migrants situation, workers and peasant situation, war and peace, gender, corruption and traditional politics, human rights and political repression, US imperialism and children and youth situation. Some works attempt to expose a situation or social phenomena. Some works educate while some call for collective action. Simply, the works chosen are deemed truthful, relevant and artistic ad representative of our times and the needs and welfare of the people.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. A solid seven-pack of Filipino singers composed of past World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) grand winners The Cercado Sisters, Catherine Loria and Jed Madela opened the 2009 “Hollywood Olympics” at the Westin Bonaventure on July 12, 2009.

Griff O’ Neil, WCOPA founder and president, and a select group of performers from Malaysia, Haiti, Jamaica and Ireland joined the Filipino singers on stage.
