Hugh's "Wolverine" ups the X-Men franchise to PhP386.3 Million
Indestructible as adamantium, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” clawed in a staggering PhP 42, 260, 794 million box-office nationwide in its 4-day opening weekend which opened April 30 in 244 theaters.
Action amplified, ‘Wolverine’s” opening accelerated the ‘X-Men’ franchise to PhP 386, 335, 062 million wherefrom “X-Men” in August 2000 grossed PhP 56.4 million, “X2: X-Men United” in April 2003 grossed PhP 120.5 million and “X-Men: The Last Stand” grossed PhP 163.1 million.
Based on actual Metro Manila figures from its local distributor Warner Bros. (F.E.), 20th Century Fox’s “Wolverine” cut through as industry-wide’s Biggest Opening Day for 2009 so far at PhP9.24 million. It now stands as the Biggest Opening Weekend for a foreign film at PhP 35.4 million surpassing “Fast and the Furious 4’s” 4-day opening weekend of Php 22.2 million.
Droves of audiences flocked to see “Wolverine” on the big screen which resounded in huge box-office receipts wherein Trinoma cinema topped the list as it pulled in a Php 3.5 million gross in its 4-day weekend release. Succeeding Trinoma’s feat is SM Mall of Asia with Php 2.2M followed by Greenbelt 3 with Php 2.03M as the third top cinema. Glorietta 4 cinema came in fourth with Php 2.09M and Powerplant at fifth with Php 1.2M.
Other cinemas included in the top 20 which drew in crowds of audiences are Alabang Town Center Php1.88M; Eastwood Php1.83M; SM Megamall Php1.76M; The Block/SM North Edsa Php1.59M; Shang Cineplex Php1.41M; Theatrmall Php1.37; Gateway Cineplex Php1.31M; Ayala Cebu Php1.08; Robinson’s Ermita Php1M; Filinvest Php 894,365; Robinson’s Galleria Php 886, 616; SM Cebu Php813, 278; SM Baguio Php 738, 402; Market Market Php 706, 776 and SM Clark Php631,554.
“X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE,” unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar, as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, adamantium claws, and a primal fury known as berserker rage.
